Module 5 Resistance
An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion at constant speed and in a straight line unless acted on by an unbalanced force.
~Newton’s First Law of Motion
When an object is at rest, it is not easy to move it. Moving an object from a state of rest to a state of motion takes a lot of energy. This is why it is easier to sit on the couch and be stationary rather than get up and exercise. It is a law of physics!
Whenever one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first.
~Newton’s Third Law of Motion
In order to get out of this state of rest, you have to find enough mental and physical energy to create an unbalanced force to push through the opposite force pushing back. The opposite force pushing back can also be described as resistance.
Upon completion this module, the athlete will recognize what resistance is, where it comes from, and will be taught how to overcome resistance and move onto success.
